Two innovative proposals from Saratoga Springs City School District educators have been selected to receive funding from the Saratoga Schools Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching educational experiences through teacher-led initiatives.
Claire Attardo and Michael Wilson were awarded a grant to introduce a book vending machine at Division Street Elementary School. Students will be able to use their Blue Streak Bucks, which they earn through positive behavior, to “purchase” a new book to take home. The Foundation praised the project for encouraging reading while positively impacting a broad range of students.
Derek Bull, on behalf of the Elementary Music Department, received funding to support music instruction in all elementary buildings. His project provides a class set of portable, battery-powered electronic keyboards, giving young learners of all abilities access to piano instruction. The piano is considered a foundational and accessible instrument in music education.
To date, the Saratoga Schools Education Foundation has awarded 45 grants totaling $175,000. Interested in supporting or getting involved? Email info@saratogalearning.org or visit www.saratogalearning.org.
