This interactive technology allows students to work collaboratively with peers within the district, with other school districts, or with outside content providers from just about anywhere. You will learn how to set up the camera, find video conference partners, and run it all independently!
108 PowerPoint -Project based learning instructor: james nair 6 Credits
PowerPoint is a simple to use and very powerful computer presentation program. It can easily be used to promote learning and interest in the classroom. This 6-hour class will focus on teachers writing and preparing a PowerPoint presentation on the scientific process, then using those skills develop a presentation suitable for parents during open-house.
109 GradeQuick Web Refresher 3 Credits
110 GradeQuick WEB ALL LEVELS 6 credits GradeQuick, the district supported grade book software, will be migrating to an online program (accessible through your Edline login) in the fall. You may have to start your grade books as we always have and when it moves to online, your data will be moved with it! This is a sophisticated application that interfaces with the StarBase student management system and Edline, the web interface for parents, teachers and students. With powerful report capabilities, you can edit each one to meet your specific needs. There are two "divisions" of grade quick training: one for primary elementary teachers (K-2)/special area teachers and one for everyone else. Primary and special area teachers have a different grading system that requires different settings. The primary GradeQuick class will show K-2/special area teachers how to best use the full power of the program to their advantage. The course sections for primary teachers will have a (P) after the number. Special Conditions for Elementary: Special Education, special area, AIS Reading and Math teachers (and any other teacher who does not have a homeroom) must send (email) a list of students to Donna Andress in order to schedule them into your classes. Please do this at least a week before the course is to take place. Otherwise, you will not have a grade book and will not be able to complete the course (2005-2006 students are OK to send)
111 EdLine 6 Credits Edline is the district supported web service for teachers, students, and parents. Teachers manage their own web page that affords them the capability of communicating with parents & students by allowing the posting of grades, school, district and individual newsletters, student schedules, and much more. It directly interfaces with GradeQuick in order for teachers to do their grades from anywhere Special Conditions: Any ELEMENTARY Special Education, ELEMENTARYspecial area, ELEMENTARY AIS Reading and ELEMENTARY Math teachers must send (email) a list of students to Donna Andress; any ELEMENTARY specials teachers who do not teach entire grade levels of students should send a list of homeroom numbers and grade levels in order to schedule them into your classes. Without schedules, you do not get Edline pages! Please do this at least a week before the course is to take place. Otherwise, you will not have an Edline account and will not be able to complete the course.
112 Email Training 2 credits Web mail is more sophisticated than ever! It has all of the features of Outlook including an address book and calendar, but without the dangers of spreading email viruses! The calendar feature is especially nice since it can be accessed from anywhere and can be shared with others if you choose to do so.
114 Elementary Software & Website—K-5 teachers Instructor: Donna Andress 6 credits This course will introduce teachers to the software on elementary classroom and library technology center computers. Titles include: Scholastic Keys, United Streaming, Math Mysteries, Math Test Check, Math Worksheet Generator, Cross Country USA, All the Right Type, Many Places, Friendly Faces (3rd grade social studies) and Math Traveler. Teachers will learn both the management and student sides of the software. Teachers will also be introduced to online curriculum sites through the district web page and other content providers. Once trained, teachers can sign up to have their students trained!
116 Pre-Edline Basic Computer Skills Instructor: Jody Terry 3 Credits
This course will cover: creating folders, organizing files, naming and renaming files, saving files in various locations (floppy disks, flash memory drives, etc.) copying and deleting single files or clumps of files, copying and pasting, navigating to and using the H:/ drive and the P:/ drive, right and left clicking, doing advanced searches and image searches in Google, saving and importing images, printing options (landscape v. portrait), adjusting margins, choosing printers, etc.) Bring documents or ideas and we will prepare and organize them on the computer to put on Edline.
117 Edline Refresher 3 Credits
This course is for teachers who have taken the 6-hour Edline course but would like a refresher. It may also be taken by teachers with STRONG computer skills who have not yet taken Edline.
118 Teaching Tools at "Quia Quia is an on-line activity site for education. Make
on-line quizzes, flashcards, matching games, and many other activities to
support your teaching using these easy "fill in the form type" activity makers.
Emphasis will be on developing activities to enhance a teacher's curriculum.
Quia also provides an easy to produce web page. All Quia activities can be
linked or the page can be used as a link from Edline (instructions and methods
for doing this efficiently will be provided. Quia.com is now a pay site --

119 PowerPoint as a
Classroom Tool PowerPoint is an easy to use presentation program available on most district computers. Presentations can enhance teaching or be used by students to present information for projects, reports, portfolios, etc. Participants will learn PowerPoint basics by creating a brief presentation following a tutorial format. Some basic word processing skills will be helpful but not necessary. Instruction for posting presentations to Edline will be provided.

Developing Internet Resource & Posting Links at Edline This class provides skills and time on task needed to meet district requirements for Edline use. Participants will locate and align Internet resources that can be used at teaching tools, lesson elements, enrichment, or to spark independent learning and investigation within the curriculum. These sources will be posted to Edline and organized in "folders" that can be made visible to students and parents as different parts of the curriculum are covered. In addition to signing up as individuals, consider attending with a colleague (or two) as a grade level or subject area group to enhance the experience. Participants will be encouraged to produce "ancillary" material and/or lessons to create a learning experience for their students as time permits.
121 Using the secondary
Laptop Sets There are mobile laptop computer labs now available for sign-out. Each rolling cart contains 16 laptop computers. These machines are connected by a wireless system to the school network and the Internet - no cables to mess with on each machine! Each cart also includes a black laser printer that receives a wireless signal from each laptop for printing. The purpose of these sets is to provide opportunities for students to work on class projects, labs, simulations, etc., in a computer lab setting within your room. Instructions will be given on how to hook up and use the laptops.

Streaming Video Imagine that you have a video library with hundreds of hours of good educational videos. Imagine that you could view those videos using any computer connected to the Internet. Imagine that you could search the whole collection by keywords such as: Shakespeare, Isaac Newton, atomic structure, Gettysburg, etc. Imagine a synopsis for each video with grade level recommendations listed. Imagine that you could not only view the entire video but also select a short segment of that video and how you can connect a TV or a projection system to your computer for improved classroom viewing.

resources for all district teachers. In this course you will be provided
the accounts and instruction necessary to be able to use: Use these resources to find and organize materials to enhance your curriculum with any time remaining after you have learned the basics. This 6-hour course is a combining some of the individual 1-hour courses listed elsewhere -- for more detail, read the descriptions of each of the individual 1-hour courses.

Windows Movie Maker in the Classroom This course is designed to show you (and your students) how to create movies for demonstration purposes, instructional purposes, or as enhanced pod casts that can be loaded to your Edline Page. Learn how to import images, add transitions, narration, titles, credits and more! Please have an instructional purpose in mind when you come to class. You will have a finished product to use with your students when you're done!

126 PowerPoint II: Advanced Presentation Elements & Posting to Edline Instructor: Chuck Kish 6 Credits Participants should be comfortable with creating presentations in PowerPoint (making new slides, pasting pictures, adding text, etc.) The goal of this class is to learn ways to enhance a presentation for more effective instruction. To that end, in addition to improving presentations, participants will also learn how to post presentations to Edline so that students and parents can access them to further enhance student learning. Advanced elements will include incorporating video clips, incorporating music and sound, better use of graphic elements, using navigation buttons to create different effects, etc.
Instructor: Shelly Cromwell 6 Credits Do you want to find good lessons on the Internet? Select great websites specific to your curriculum needs. Participants will actually create a lesson within their curriculum area. Additional lessons or websites are available to teachers. This course can provide websites for your Edline page. Bring an idea or theme for a lesson for a discussion of ideas. (Recommended for all levels and disciplines)
128 Creating Classroom documents using Microsoft Publisher Instructor: Shelly Cromwell 6 Credits This course will explore the use of Microsoft Publisher as a tool to enhance classroom handouts, calendars, newsletters, and instructional materials. Participants will design brochures and instructional materials for students. Some word processing skills would be helpful but not necessary.
129 Middle & High School Technology Projects Instructor: Shelly Cromwell 6 Credits Develop lessons that will motivate your students; beginner and intermediate users will benefit. Internet vocabulary, search engines as well as web site evaluation will be covered. Specific websites and software will be examined in relation to the Middle School curriculum. This class will provide you with efficient and effective skills to incorporate technology lessons. Example projects may include Web quests, telecommunications, research projects, etc. Bring curriculum ideas and begin to develop a technology rich lesson.
130 Using Digital Images in the Classroom Instructor: Shelly Cromwell 6 Credits Want to know what to do with digital pictures or pictures from the Internet, a digital camera or a scanner? This class is an introduction to getting, storing and manipulating digital images from a variety of sources. Participants will learn how to use pictures from a digital camera, scan in a picture and acquire pictures from the Internet. (Bring a picture to scan.) Also saving, working with and storing images will be covered. Additional organization, storage, and use of images on a home folder will be covered. Images can then be inserted into posters for the classroom or handouts/transparencies, etc. (Recommended for all levels and disciplines)
Instructor: Shelly Cromwell 6 Credits Ever wondered how photos are edited or how to remove red-eyes? This course can help you learn some of the basics of Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.o. Learn how to do basic photo editing such as removing color, adjusting brightness and color contrast. Correct and improve pictures before inserting into a document. Saving pictures as .jpg, .gif and .psd will be covered.
132 Microsoft Word Basics for Elementary Classrooms Instructor: James Nair 6 Credits Microsoft Word is a powerful and versatile word processing tool. Although many use the program on a regular basis there are many features and shortcuts that can increase productivity and make the use of the program more effective. The goal of the course is to increase teachers comfort level with the product and master new ways of using Word as a teaching tool.
133 Digital Images for Elementary Classrooms Instructor: James Nair 2 Credits Class is designed to allow teachers the time and environment to master the placement and manipulation of digital images into PowerPoint, Publisher, Word, and Edline. Teachers will leave the class with knowledge and several posted images.
