This interactive technology allows students to work collaboratively with peers within the district, with other school districts, or with outside content providers from just about anywhere. This is a sophisticated application that interfaces with the StarBase student management system and Edline, the web interface for parents, teachers and students. With powerful report capabilities, you can edit each one to meet your specific needs.

Special Conditions for Elementary:  Special Education, special area, AIS Reading and Math teachers (and any other teacher who does not have a homeroom) must send (email) a list of students to Donna Andress in order  to schedule them into your classes.  Please do this at least a week before the course is to take place.  Otherwise, you will not have a grade book and will not be able to complete the course (2005-2006 students are OK to send)

Edline is the district supported web service for teachers, students, and parents. Teachers manage their own web page that affords them the capability of communicating with parents & students by allowing the posting of grades, school, district and individual newsletters, student schedules, and much more. It directly interfaces with GradeQuick in order for teachers to do their grades from anywhere

Special Conditions:  Any ELEMENTARY Special Education, ELEMENTARYspecial area, ELEMENTARY AIS Reading and  ELEMENTARY Math teachers must send (email) a list of students to Donna Andress;  any ELEMENTARY specials teachers  who do not teach entire grade levels of students should send a list of homeroom numbers and grade levels in order  to schedule them into your classes.  Without schedules, you do not get Edline pages!  Please do this at least a week before the course is to take place.  Otherwise, you will not have an Edline account and will not be able to complete the course.

114  Edline~Beyond the Basics

This course is designed to take the SOLID Edline user to the next level by teaching them how to:

1. Manage gradebooks

2. Change visibility of documents, calendar events, news, links and other contents

3. Use the My File Locker feature

4. Restore Old Class Materials

5. Add additional Web Pages (groups) for units of study or clubs

6. Manage Contents , My File Locker, Links, and so on, through folders management

This course will also include a Question/Answer component to help individuals create the Edline page they really want.

116  Pre-Edline Basic Computer Skills

This course will cover:  creating folders, organizing files, naming and renaming files, saving files in various locations (flash memory drives, etc.) copying and deleting single files or clumps of files, copying and pasting, navigating to and using the H:/ drive and the P:/ drive, right and left clicking, doing advanced searches and image searches in Google, saving and importing images, printing options (landscape v. portrait), adjusting margins, choosing printers, etc.)  Bring documents or ideas and we will prepare and organize them on the computer to put on Edline.

118  Teaching Tools at "Quia                          6 Credits

Quia is an on-line activity site for education.  Make on-line quizzes, flashcards, matching games, and many other activities to support your teaching using these easy "fill in the form type" activity makers.  Emphasis will be on developing activities to enhance a teacher's curriculum.  Quia also provides an easy to produce web page.  All Quia activities can be linked or the page can be used as a link from Edline (instructions and methods for doing this efficiently will be provided.  Quia.com is now a pay site -- THE DISTRICT WILL COVER THE COST OF YOUR QUIA ACCOUNT FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS.  In addition to signing up as individuals, consider attending with a colleague (or two) as a grade level or subject area group to enhance the experience.  Familiarity with using the Internet is helpful but not required.

PowerPoint is an easy to use presentation program available on most district computers.  Presentations can enhance teaching or be used by students to present information for projects, reports, portfolios, etc.  Participants will learn PowerPoint basics by creating a brief presentation following a tutorial format.  Some basic word processing skills will be helpful but not necessary.  Instruction for posting presentations to Edline will be provided.

This class provides skills and time on task needed to meet district requirements for Edline use.  Participants will locate and align Internet resources that can be used at teaching tools, lesson elements, enrichment, or to spark independent learning and investigation within the curriculum.  These sources will be posted to Edline and organized in "folders" that can be made visible to students and parents as different parts of the curriculum are covered.  In addition to signing up as individuals, consider attending with a colleague (or two) as a grade level or subject area group to enhance the experience.  Participants will be encouraged to produce "ancillary" material and/or lessons to create a learning experience for their students as time permits.

123  Using Secondary Technology           Instructor:  Chuck Kish                  6 Credits

The district provides several technology resources for all district teachers.  In this course you will be provided the accounts and instruction necessary to be able to use:
District Provided Web Based E-Mail:  More effectively use email with address books, emailing to groups controlling to some degree what goes into your spam folder, etc.
Streaming Video:  Access hundreds of hours of instructional video for use in your lessons.  Pointers on inserting video clips into PowerPoint presentations will be provided as time allows.
Secondary Mobile Laptop Lab:   Move this wireless lab of 16 laptop computers into your room for class use, also prints wirelessly.
Using the Secondary Network:  Access and backup all your work from any district computer.  Learn to use the public drive to make materials available to students and collaborate with colleagues either within a department or across disciplines.
Projection Technology:  Connect your computer to a projection system or a TV to facilitate viewing by the entire class.

Use these resources to find and organize materials to enhance your curriculum with any time remaining after you have learned the basics.  This 6-hour course is a combining some of the individual 1-hour courses listed elsewhere -- for more detail, read the descriptions of each of the individual 1-hour courses.

This course is designed to show you (and your students)  how to create movies for demonstration purposes, instructional purposes, or as enhanced pod casts that can be loaded to your Edline Page.   Learn how to import images, add transitions, narration, titles, credits and more! 

Please have an instructional purpose in mind when you come to class.  You will have a finished product to use with your students when you're done!

  1. Where to find videoconferences that will enhance or reinforce their lessons. 
  2. Explore the videoconference resources available for their content area(s).
  3. Learn the procedures necessary to request a videoconference and how to fill out the I.T. Department's Online Videoconference Request Form. 
  4. Learn how to prepare their classes to participate successfully in a videoconferencing experience.
