How do I save MS Office files in a form compatible with
Edline and my home computer?
It appears that
our new version of Microsoft Word 2007 is not compatible with Edline.
Specifically, any document you upload that is created in Word 2007 does not
appear to open properly from Edline.
Cutting and pasting
from Word into the "Enter text by hand" box at Edline is
fine.
This is only an issue when
you use the "Import an existing file
(e.g. MS Word, PDF, Excel)"
option at Edline. (PDF files should be unaffected.)
To import documents so they work at Edline, use the following steps when you
save a document from a computer running Office (Word) 2007 (all our
computers here at Maple):
-
Write your document as you normally would.
-
When you save
the document the Save as box appears
-
In the
File name: box near the bottom, name the document as
you normally would, but do not click the
Save button yet
-
Below the
File name: box notice the Save as type:
box
-
In the
Save as type: box, click the drop-down arrow
to the right
-
Click the
Word 97-2003 Document option
-
Now click the
Save button.
Following these steps will allow you to use this document as
you normally would here at school, but also makes the file compatible with
Edline. If you have had trouble working with documents at home that you
started here at school this may be the same compatibility issue if you are using
an older version of Word. Saving documents using the steps above will
likely solve that problem also. (Likewise with other MS Office products
like Excel, and PowerPoint.)
Also, any document you already have in 2007 format can be
resaved in 97-2003 format by opening the document and resaving it following the
steps outlined above. You will then have a copy of each, so be sure to
upload the right one.
We will look into these issues and update you as we get new
information.
