Updating Edline pages for the New School Year

This tutorial is for those who developed Edline pages in the previous school year
and wish to use some of those same resources for classes in the new school year.

To set up Edline for the first time, go to the Edline Tutorials on the Staff Page.

To prepare for a new school year new classes must replace the previous year's classes.  When this occurs, all the old resources are automatically saved in a folder called Old Class Materials.  This is located in the yellow barred  My Contents box at the upper left of the screen.  These materials can very easily be transferred into your new class pages with minimum effort.  The steps outlined below describe how to accomplish this.

  1. Browse to edline.net and login as usual(Use the edline link to open Edline in a new window.)

  2. Select any one of your classes.

  1. Click Old Class Materials

  1. Click the class your are currently viewing.

  • A window appears as shown below.

  • Materials that you posted in the previous year will be there.

  • Many of the items, like Links will contain all the links you had posted when at the end of last school year.  If you check the Links checkbox, you can copy all the links at once to one or more of your new classes.  If you click the word Links you will be shown a new page with all the links that are in the links folder and then you may choose which links to copy to your new class(es).

Step by step instructions follow.

  1. A.  To post all the links that you had at the end of last year, check the Links checkbox.

  1. B. To select individual links to post at this time, click the word Links and then check the check boxes for only those links you wish to post at this time.

  1. Once you have checked the items you wish to post, click the Copy To... button.

  1. Highlight the class page into whish you wish to copy the items (links in this case).  To select more than one class, hold down the control key (Ctrl) while you click the additional class or classes that you wish to add to the selection.

  2. Once you have highlighted all the classes you wish, click the Copy button.

  3. It may take a few seconds for the copying to take place.  Once the process is completed, you will be returned to the previous window.

  1. Repeat these steps with other items to update your new class pages.  A few points to consider:

  • This process can be done with any item listed.

  • The central portion of the page including the image that appeared on your page when the changeover occurred can be found at the Group Info: your image name.jpg & group description link.

  • Grade links from last year may appear but since these are new classes, these links lead to pages that show No items found.

HINTIf you added and deleted items from your page(s) throughout year, you will now find that  deleted items are no longer available to you.  If this is the case, consider leaving all items on the page that you add through the year and use the Change Visibility... option to make them available to your students at different times of the year.  In this way, all your items will be available for your use at all times.  (That information was likely included in your original Edline training, or in Edline 4 -- online tutorial in the works.)
