Edline 3 (Recommended Use)Using the Class Page

Opening the Modify Class Window

The central portion of any class page must be modified separately
for each class.  To edit any part of the central portion of the class page:

  • login to Edline
  • go to the appropriate class page
  • Scroll down to Command Center (yellow on the left)
  • click the  Manage Class link

Class Name and ID
  • Make the "Class Name" more useful by changing it or adding a period or some other way to better identify it.
  • DO NOT alter the "Class ID number" -- this is an important identifier for the computer system.

Change The Stack Of Books Image

Edline defaults to the stack of books image.  If you do not change it or if you delete an image that you have added, the stack of books automatically appears.

Some notes on image selection:

  • the image should be less than 75kilobytes (Google image show the file size)
  • the image will be resized to fit the space to some degree -- some images look better than others once this is done
  • you may have to try a few images to get the one you like
  • you may modify images with various programs or use digital images from cameras -- doing this is beyond the scope of this short presentation

To change the stack of books image:

  1. Find an image on the internet or some other source you like.  (Google images is a good source)
  2. Save the image to you computer
    • right click on the image
    • choose "Save Picture As..."
    • Save the image to someplace you will remember (the desktop, "My Pictures", or your H:drive if you think you will use it in the future)
  3. In the "Manage Class" window, scroll down to the "Image" section
    • Click "Browse"
    • In the "Look in" box, use the drop down arrow to move to the location where you saved the image
    • Select the image file
    • Click "Open"  (or double click the image)
    • The image file name will now appear -- once you click save, the new image will be in the TOP position of your class page section

Add/Modify Text
  • Type whatever text you wish in the "Class Description" text box under "Class Information"
    • You may use the tools at the top of the box to format the text as you wish, including numbered and bulleted lists, font style, color, size, etc.
  • You may also paste images into this box as you wish and they will show up on your class page.  Some images or image types may not work -- some experimentation or trial and error may be necessary.

HINT: If you teach more than one section of the same class, compose the class material for one class and then copy it and paste it into the other classes.

Key To Text Box Formatting Buttons
  • Hopefully most of the formatting buttons are familiar from other word processing experiences.

  • Hold the cursor over any button for a few seconds and a descriptive label will appear.

  • Descriptions of some less familiar or distinctive buttons . . .
  •  Preview  the material as it will appear on your page.

Edit HTML Source (for those familiar with HTML web page formatting)

Ordered list -- number a list of items

Unordered list -- places bullets in front of each list item
     Outdent & Indent highlighted text

Insert/edit link -- make highlighted (selected) text a hyperlink to a web page

Unlink -- remove a web hyperlink in highlighted (selected) text
