What if I
forgot my locker combination or have trouble getting it open?
Lockers take practice. If you have any trouble with your locker, tell an
adult. Your homeroom teacher has a copy of your locker combination. Do not share your
combination with a friend. Do not preset the combination of your lock. Also, items are not
to be stored on the shelf above your locker. The school is not responsible for lost or
stolen items.
What if I take medicine in school? What if I don't feel well?
What
do you do in a flex?
Flex is a time in the day for you to do your homework or read quietly. It is not a time to
socialize or eat. If you use this time wisely, you will have less homework to take home.
You may also use this time to go to the library.
Are
there any after school activities?
There are many activities you can take part in
at the middle school. There are many clubs you can join, depending on your interests.
There are many sports you may join. Most activities meet after school and you can take the
late bus home at 3:15 on Mondays. Other days, clubs start at 3:00 and will have
a late bus at the conclusion. Information will be sent home about the clubs and sports.
What
do I do if I'm too sick to come to school?
Please call the attendance office at 587-4551 ext. 2001. If you are absent for two or more
days, you may request homework. Please call your house office early in the day
to make arrangements.
What
if I need to call home?
Please go to the main office (with a pass) if you need to call home. If you
are sick, go to the nurse. She will contact your parents.
What
if I forgot something at home?
If you call home to have someone bring
an item into school, your parent should take the item to the main office. You will be
notified when the item arrives.
Help!
I forgot my lunch!
During the first week of school, all
students receive a PIN #. If you forget your lunch, you can go to the main office to call
home. If you are unable to contact someone at home, you may charge your lunch that day by
using your PIN #. You will be required to pay off the charge the next day.
What
if I am late for class?
Any time you come late to a class, you
need a pass. You should have plenty of time to get from one class to another. If you stay
late in a class, your teacher will give you a pass to go to your next class. If you come
to school late, the office will give you a pass to get into class.
What
if I come in late to school or leave for appointments?
Parents must sign you in and out when you are late or must leave during
school for appointments. A note is required at that time.
What
do you do in Homeroom? How long are classes and how many are there?
In Homeroom, attendance is taken and
you will hear the morning announcements. Homeroom is also an opportunity to receive
handouts and messages and to talk with your teacher if you have any concerns. There are 9
periods in the school day, including lunch. Each is 40 minutes long. You have 3 minutes to
get from one class to another. Your core classes of Math, Science, Social Studies and
Language Arts will be located near each other.
What
is an A Day / B Day?
There are some classes you will go to
every other day, such as PE, General Music, Computer Literacy, 8th grade
Computer Explorations, 6th grade Art, and Foreign
Language. On your schedule, you will see these courses listed as "A day" or
"B day" classes. (Since you may not remember, each day the morning announcements
will tell you if the day is A Day or B Day). In 7th grade, Home & Careers, Art, Health
and Technology are semester courses. They run for 1/2 of the school year. You will see in
your schedule 1, 2 for the first half of the year and 3, 4 for the second half of the
year.
When
do you have band, orchestra or chorus?
These music groups meet every other
day. In order to be in a performing group, students must be recommended by their fifth
grade teacher. Students who are in Band or Orchestra have the option of joining Chorus for
half a year.
How
do I take the late bus?
To ride a late bus, you need a pass
from the teacher who is supervising your after school activity. Activities will be held
from 2:30 pm to 3:15 pm. on Mondays, and 3:00 to 3:45 on Tuesdays-Thursdays. Late busses are available.

Communications
for parents
The school mails home a letter from the building principal every
five weeks which contains a lot of information. The Mapletogian newsletter is
published online
every month as well. Parent Teacher Support Organization
(PTSO) meets each month with the meeting dates and times listed on the school calendar.
What are the rules
at Maple Avenue?
The discipline code is mailed home during the
first week of school. Your parents are asked to review it with you and sign it. Your
homeroom teacher will review the discipline code with you during the first week of school.
