Dear Parents/Guardians:
We are looking forward to welcoming your student back to school on Wednesday, September 5. This will be a full day of school. Prior to the start of school, the Transportation Department will be mailing home bus schedules showing your child’s bus number, bus stop and time of pick up and drop off.
The walk-thru is scheduled for Tuesday, August 28, 2007 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Please bring your child’s schedule that afternoon, as copies will not be available at the school. The walk-thru provides you and your child an opportunity to locate classrooms. Volunteers will be working as guides to assist with this process. The PTSO will be taking memberships, as well as selling student assignment books for $7.00. Please bring exact money, if possible.
Upon arrival the first day of school, students will be released from the busses by grade level. Sixth graders will be directed to the main gymnasium where their homeroom teachers will meet them.
The listing below shows the homeroom staffing for each House. In the upper right-hand corner of your child’s schedule (in the CC box) is their team number. If you look for the homeroom number on the top of the schedule and match it below, you will be able to determine your child’s homeroom teacher and team. Supply lists are available on the school web site, www.saratogaschools.org/maple.

Sixth graders will find enclosed their PIN number for cafeteria use. This should be kept in a safe place, and should not be shared with other students. The cost for breakfast is $1.25, and lunch will be $1.85.
Students who are eligible for free or reduced lunch need to submit a new application by the end of September. If you need an application, they will be available in the Main Office. Completed applications should be returned to the Main Office for further processing.
On the first day of school, students need only to bring a pen and notebook. Musical instruments will not be needed, nor will gym clothing.
If you will be transporting your child to and from school, we ask that you follow the traffic flow around the parking lot to the student drop-off area. Do not go into or cut through the parking lot itself to drop off students. Another alternative is to enter the school grounds, follow the bus route, turn left into the front parking lot and drop your child off in that area.
We look forward to having a very productive year for all of our students. I would encourage, if you have any questions or concerns prior to the opening of school, that you call. If there is a need to set up parent conferences early, please call your child’s House office and leave the appropriate messages. If not, I would suggest waiting until after our September Open Houses. Open House for Columbian Springs and Hathorn Springs is scheduled for Tuesday, September 18, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Open House for Excelsior Springs and Red Springs is scheduled for Wednesday, September 19, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Conferences are recommended at any time during the year, by appointment.
Hope you enjoy the rest of the summer. See you soon!
Sincerely,
Stuart F. Byrne
