September 7, 2007

As we begin the 2007-2008 school year, I would like to welcome all parents, students, and staff to a great new beginning.  Once again I would like to have our House theme to be Personal Responsibility.  Each of us individually and all of us collectively have a role in being personally responsible for our success and safety throughout the school year.

Students you need to be responsible for your success here academically.  This means paying attention in class, taking notes, completing homework, participation in class, arriving to class on time, etc.  You are also personally responsible for your own safety and your part in the safety of others.  Do not run in the halls, do not throw anything, keep to the right in the halls, etc.

Parents are personally responsible for providing a safe, comfortable environment for their children to work and study.  Parents need to encourage their children to be successful in school.  Parents need to communicate with the school providing any information that they feel will assist the school in making their child successful.

Teachers will be personally responsible for providing the best academic program of instruction for each student individually.  Teachers need to communicate with parents and school administrators any information that will assist the students to be successful.

As House Principal, I am personally responsible for providing the best academic environment whereby teachers can teach and students can learn.  I will communicate with all parties any information that will further enhance everyones’ success at Maple Avenue Middle School.

Collectively, we are all responsible for a safe, successful, rewarding, and enjoyable school year.

I chose not to use the phrase “Good Luck” to you, for we all fully realize that it is good work and hard work, which will bring success for us all, not luck.

 Have a great school year.
 Mr. Gerald Leger
 Hathorn Springs House Principal
