Mrs. Susan M. Kichton Excelsior Springs House Principal September 2, 2009 Welcome back to another active and exciting school year in Excelsior Springs. It is my expectation that the school year will be filled with a myriad of exciting, challenging and rewarding academic and social activities for both students, parents and staff to participate in on a regular basis. Students, teachers and parents each need to take an equal share of the responsibility for the learning process that takes place at Maple Avenue Middle School. If each one of us works to the best of our abilities to cooperate and support each other during this rigorous academic school year, then the goal of having our students become successful life-long learners will be met!One key component that is critical in becoming a life-long learner is the ability to demonstrate strong organizational skills. If students are able to use the following organizational skills appropriately, then they will be successful in any endeavor that they pursue: Use appropriate tools (such as agendas, binders, media center, etc.), Follow directions and comply with expectations, Use a system of organization, Listen, think, plan and manage time, and Use long-range planning strategies.
