Purpose: This site was put together to try to make our 9th Grade Student's introduction to their first taste of Shakespeare - ROMEO AND JULIET - a little more easy to understand and to (we hope) make it a little more enjoyable.

Task: There are a variety of tasks to be performed throughout this ROMEO AND JULIET unit and in using this site:

  1. Students will use the various resources on this site to help understand:
    1. the time period (the Renaissance) in which Shakespeare wrote.
    2. the time period in which Romeo and Juliet lived.
    3. the variety of language that Shakespeare used.
    4. the play's meaning through various questions, review sheets, vocabulary references, etc.
    5. the various literary devices Shakespeare's writing is famous for.

  2. Through the reading of the play and using the various links on the web site, students will write a major essay on a particular topic, using a given thesis or one which may be approved by the teacher.

  3. Students will, in groups, write a ROMEO AND JULIET newspaper which will incorporate all that they have learned from the entire unit.The students will research their assigned tasks and put together, in newspaper format, their combined efforts, using the web site as their main source.
