Oct. 23 program on anxiety and OCD offers strategies for helping students
A
special presentation on anxiety and obsessive-compulsive
disorder offered by the school district’s Office of Pupil
Services on Oct. 23 attracted a motivated audience of more than
30 school psychologists, speech therapists, teachers and
administrators.
The guest speaker at the all-day workshop
and training session was Dr. Aureen Pinto Wagner, a clinical
associate professor of neurology at the University of Rochester
School of Medicine and director of the Anxiety Wellness Center
in Rochester. The title of Dr. Wagner’s presentation was
“Anxiety and OCD in School-Aged Children: Early Recognition and
Effective Intervention.”
Dr. Wagner provided practical guidelines and interventions to help students cope with worry, perfectionism, school refusal, separation anxiety, social anxiety, performance/test anxiety, obsessions and compulsions.
