ADVANCED TAI CHI BY THE ARTHRITIS FOUNDATION  (PART II)

                        8 weeks                                                Kim Andrew

Students will review the 16 Basic movements followed by learning and integrating the next 12 Advanced movements to complete the practice of Tai Chi for Arthritis series.  Certified by the NY Arthritis Foundation, Kim Andrew leads this program utilizing the Sun Style, one of the four major recognized styles of Tai Chi.  The Sun style is particularly effective for people with arthritis because the movements have comfortable higher stances, fluid and continuous agile steps that have been shown to improve balance, concentration and mobility.  Combined with the breathing and relaxation exercises, Tai Chi also offers the potential to reduce pain and stiffness.  It is recommended that students are familiar with the preceding 6 Basic movements.  Please wear comfortable clothing and soft-soled shoes/sneakers.   Pre-requisite:  Completion of Tai Chi by the Arthritis Foundation, Part I.  Class size limited to 20.

BECOME A SUBSTITUTE TEACHER

Find out about teaching in the Saratoga Springs City School District.  Minimum qualifications are a BA or BS Degree.  You’ll have the opportunity to complete the Substitute Teacher Application as well as learn about policies and procedures for becoming a Substitute Teacher.  If you enjoy children, this may be the position for you!

DEFENSIVE DRIVING

                        Two Nights                                            Michelle Stucchi

This course will award all principle operators of a motor vehicle with a minimum 10% reduction in auto liability, no-fault, and collision insurance premiums each year for a three year period.  In addition, those motorists who have incurred violation points on their record will receive up to a four point reduction.  The program consists of six hours of classroom instruction focused on highway safety and alcohol education to increase driver awareness and promote safe driving behaviors.  Participants will be involved in group discussions, lecture, and viewing videos.  Course materials include a student workbook and a certificate upon completion.  A $30 lab fee payable to instructor will be collected.  All classes are 6:00-9:00 p.m.  Class size limited to 30.

FIVE HOUR PRE-LICENSING COURSE

                        One Night                                             Ron DeLap

The pre-License Course is required by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles for all individuals that are permit holders, and planning on taking a NYS road test within a year of the issue date of the pre-license certificate.  The five hour class/course consists of lecture, discussion and video presentations.  The curriculum for this course includes all aspects of driving to include:  safety, weather, drugs, alcohol, seat belts, cell phones, tractor trailer awareness, road hazards, thinking and looking ahead, driving defensively, insurance, consequences, violations, traffic law and much more.  A $10 materials fee will be payable to instructor at the time of class.  You must bring your Permit to class with you.

NYS SAFE BOATING COURSE

                        3 weeks                                                Jeffrey Butler

Current marine legislation will require all personal watercraft operators and young boaters to be licensed for the 2010 season!  This instructor led, state approved, workshop will cover the basic principles of safe and legal boating practices.  Completion of this three evening course is mandatory in order to meet the State hourly requirements for personal watercraft (PWC) operators of all ages.  Young boaters (10-18 years) will also be eligible to operate power boats up to 26' in length.  A $10 materials fee will be payable to instructor the first night of class.  Class size limited to 30.
