This half hour mat class will focus on gaining strength and endurance of the abdominal area and back muscles.  Participants should bring a floor mat, towel and water.

BYOB WORKOUT  (Bring Your Own Ball)

A total body workout using a large stability ball to develop core and muscular strength.  Bring your own ball (55-65 cm) and 3-5 pound hand weights, a sticky yoga mat, water and a towel.  Taught by an E.S.A. certified instructor.

CARDIO KICKBOXING

Box and Strengthen!  A low impact cardio workout using kick and punch combinations guaranteed to make all level participants work up a sweat and reduce stress!  Taught by Nationally certified instructor with CPR training.  Choose one night per week for $32.00 or two nights per week for $40.00 per session.  Bring water.

Just the right combination of high and low impact moves for a great workout that accommodates all fitness levels.  Ends with sculpting section and a stretch.  Taught by an E.S.A. Certified Instructor.  Please bring 3-5 pound hand weights, your own towel, mat and water.

Get fit with the perfect combination of 30 minutes of hi/lo aerobics, followed by 30 minutes of body sculpting and finishing with the ultimate 30 minute stretch and relaxation segment.  Enjoy this variety as you work up a sweat!  Taught by a certified instructor.  Participants should bring hand weights, a towel, mat, water and wear sneakers and comfortable clothing.  Dynabands will be provided by instructor for a $5 fee.

HORSEMANSHIP: ADULT

This class is designed as an introductory program in basic horseback riding.  Members may select either stock seat, western or balance seat, or English style of riding.  Special provisions will be made for more advanced riders.  The class will meet the first night in a classroom, with the other classes to be held at Mrs. Friday's stable in Gansevoort.  Classes will use indoor arena.  Fee does not include cost of rental for horses ($60 payable to instructor the first night of class covers all riding lessons).

This class provides the opportunity to participate in this popular sport inside.  Intermediate level of soccer skill required (not a beginning course).  Participants should be familiar with the game and in good physical condition.  Please bring a white "T" shirt and a dark "T" shirt to each session.  We must have a minimum of 15 players (male or female) to run this program.  Limit 18.

Play will be under U.S.V.B.A. rules with a 6-2 or 5-1 format.  Admission to class is contingent on players’ skill level as determined by the instructor.

PILATES

Pilates is total body exercise!  It encompasses controlled, precise movements designed to stretch and strengthen muscles without adding bulk,  Exercise is focused on the core - abdominals, back and buttocks - which work together to create stability for the entire body.  Come and experience the benefits of pilates, fast becoming one of the most popular styles of exercise.  Taught by certified Pilates and Fitness instructors.  Wear comfortable clothes.  Bring  3-5 pound hand weights, a mat ("Sticky" yoga style mat works best), water and a towel.  Limit 30 per session.

PILATES METHOD OF BODY CONDITIONING

Pilates Method of Body Conditioning is the total body exercise focusing on the core abdominals creating stability for the entire body, encompassing controlled precise movements to stretch and strengthen the muscles.   Pilates, with its premier method of core-strength training, has become one of the most popular forms of fitness training available for all walks of life.  Pilates is embraced not only as a form of specialized training and physical rehabilitation, but as a deeply effective method of achieving health and well being.  Simply put Pilates feels good.  As Joseph Pilates himself said, “You will feel better in 10 sessions, look better in 20 sessions, and have a completely new body in 30 sessions.”  Taught by Power Pilates certified instructor Natasha LaFayette.  Wear comfortable clothes, bring a mat, towel and water.

POWER VOLLEYBALL FOR MEN AND WOMEN

This class is for ALL POWER VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS!  We have two courts for the men and one court for the women.  The competition in Power Volleyball is equal to or above U.S.V.B.A. class "b" level.  To contend in this setting, you must be able to bump, set, spike, serve, dink, block, dig and pass proficiently.  .  Admission to class is contingent on players' skill level determined by instructors' discretion.  First come, first serve.  Limit 36.

SELF DEFENSE:  COED

Learn the basics of self-defense for both men and women taught by a black belt Jujitsu instructor.  Find out how to protect yourself in any and all situations.  Course will include warm-up stretching, light exercise, blocking and other defensive techniques using a non-confrontational approach.   An ideal course for pre-college students and women or men of all ages.  Mothers and daughters or fathers and sons (age 13 and over) welcome.  Wear comfortable clothing.  Please bring an exercise mat and water.

STEP AEROBICS

This one hour and 15 minute class offers a low impact, high intensity Step workout that incorporates a 45 minute step cardio session (stepping on and off a low step bench), 15 minutes of low impact aerobics with upper body toning, plus 15 minutes to lower body toning and abdominals.  This class is geared for all fitness levels.  You can purchase Steps at Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Dicks’ Sporting Goods or any other major sporting goods department store.  Instructor is AFAA and Step Reebok certified.

STRETCH & RELAXATION FOR EVERYONE!

This class caters to all of those who wish to improve mobility and increase flexibility. Gentle stretching and strengthening movements with correct body alignment are emphasized.  Helps to relieve everyday stiffness and pain associated with arthritis, chronic pain and fatigue.  Feel energized and relaxed!  Loose clothing recommended.  A floor mat or towel is suggested for floor comfort.  Everybody's welcome!

TAI CHI - BEGINNERS

Tai Chi is becoming highly regarded in this country for its health enhancing and stress reducing qualities.  Tai Chi consists of relaxed, gentle movements coordinated with the mind, and the flow of internal energy or Chi.  Join us in this class and enjoy the many benefits of this ancient Chinese mind-body art.

Coed walking for fitness consists of warm-up, walking, and cool down, all to music. Taught by an experienced instructor, WALK FIT burns calories, builds bones, lowers blood pressure, relieves stress, and can be done by all ages and fitness levels.  Wear comfortable clothes and sneakers, or walking shoes, bring a mat or towel to sit on and water.

WEIGHT LIFTING FOR WOMEN 

                        7 weeks                                                Sue Johnson

After the age of 30, individuals lose a third to a half pound of lean muscle mass per year.  Strength training has been shown to preserve this muscle tissue, lower the risk of osteoporosis, and improve one's psychological well-being.  This class offers and introduction to strength training, using proper techniques, flexibility and posture.  Join us to learn the basics while previous students continue to gain strength, energy and self-esteem.  Instructor Sue Johnson is certified as a professional trainer and teaches the class in a relaxed setting for both beginners and intermediates.  Participants should bring their own hand weights.  2, 3 or 4 pound weights are appropriate for beginners.  Returning students should continue to challenge themselves using heavier weights.   Taking both nights of class is recommended.  Class size limited to 40.

YOGA:  EXPERIENCED BEGINNER TO INTERMEDIATE

This class is suitable for both experienced beginning and intermediate students.  You will build stamina and strength, increase flexibility and concentration as well as develop balance, breath control, bone density and lower blood pressure.  Varying levels of difficulty are offered in each pose to accommodate the different levels of ability.  Class includes meditation, breathwork and guided imagery as well as vinyasa (flowing linked poses) and static poses.  Classes are infused with humor as well as respect for both student and the discipline of yoga.

ZUMBA

Zumba is the hottest “International Dance/Fitness class” in existence.  It combines the Latin Rhythms of Merengue, Cha-Cha, Salsa, Cumbia & Reggaeton.  All routines are uniquely choreographed to original music.  The class consists of 15 minutes of Warm-Up, 30 minutes of Cardio and 15 minutes of Cool-Down.  One burns between 600-1000 calories per class. Comfortable work-out attire and smooth bottom sneakers suggested.  Session I will be held on Mondays with Suzanne Jagoda, Session II on Tuesdays with Debbie Spurgas and Session III on Wednesdays with Suzanne Jagoda.  Class size limited to 75.
