Upon the completion of the original Erie Canal, hundreds of young men later found themselves serving at the short-lived Buffalo Barracks in Western New York.

They were sent there in response to skirmishes along the Niagara Frontier just prior to the Civil War. These men belonged to the original U.S. Army Regiments. Their individual data was recorded and well maintained by Recruitment Adjutants at various forts throughout the east coast from Florida to Maine.

The "Descriptive & Historical Register of Enlisted Soldiers in the U.S. Army" provides valuable genealogical information for researchers, and historians, worldwide.  It is from these records that I have extracted and compiled an extensive database about the soldiers who were at the Buffalo Barracks between 1835-1846.
